  • 34 – Wanderwelle

Hailing from Amsterdam, Wanderwelle’s unique brand of invigorating, meditative deep electronica has quickly made a mark internationally. Their creative output is intricate and well-considered, with each release featuring field recordings and deep-lying concepts which draw inspiration from folklore and natural environments. Following on from releases on Silent Season – including the acclaimed “Lost in a Sea of Trees” from 2017 – the duo has increased their exposure, performing at Isotoop in the Rotterdam, Tresor in Berlin and an upcoming debut outdoor set at Croatia’s Modem Festival. Along with this, their contribution to Grand River’s One Instrument project found its way onto vinyl earlier this year. For their contribution to Patterns of Perception, the duo explore a range of sounds – from lush ambience and deep techno to experimental electronica – that translate impeccably into a single, cohesive yet wide-ranging narrative.Their next LP “Gathering of the Ancient Spirits” (also on Silent Season) is slated for release later this summer. • 47 – Lou Drago

Perpetually obsessed with proving the futility of binaries, Lou Drago is drawn to the spaces between analogue and synthesised sounds. In their sets, Drago aims to provide a space for contemplation and introspection, offering a pause from the anxiety of neoliberalism through ambient, strange and relaxing sounds. They aim to summon imagery of speculative queer and postgendered futurities through evoking sci-fi, space, drone and ambience. Drago hosts a monthly show on Cashmere Radio based in Berlin called TRANSIENCE, each time inviting a different artist to respond to their concept to create an hour of anxiety relief from hetero-patriarchial systems of oppression. In Patterns of Perception 47, Drago fuses all these elements into a masterfully lucid kaleidoscope of vivid textures and colours punctuated by shimmering spaces. • 46 – Konduku

Konduku (a.k.a. Ruben Üvez) burst onto the scene in 2018 with his debut album Kıran, named after the picturesque hill in Turkey’s Cappadocia under which his father is buried. That man and that place are in many ways the inspiration behind this unique artist’s arresting blending of atmospheric melodica and polyrhythmic drive, grounded in equal measure upon the mystifying beauty of his ancestral home and the thrilling electronic music scene of the Netherlands in which he was raised. His Patterns of Perception 46 perfectly reflects these dual complementary forces, at once arcane and palpable. And perhaps the third vital foundation upon which this mix’s incandescent energy stands is the process by which it was created: two turntables, one take. • 45 – Opal Sunn

Japanese duo Opal Sunn, a.k.a. Alex Kassian & Hiroaki OBA, take their love for machine-made electronic music and create free-spirited, intricately-layered musical landscapes. Since their first studio release on Planet Sundae in 2017, they have crafted a niche for themselves with energetic, percussive live sets featuring travelling acid baselines and expansive ambient textures. Featuring field recordings, esoteric samples, and an unlikely confluence of musical imageries, the duo’s Patterns of Perception 45 sees them lingering in warm, brilliant ambient spaces punctuated by irresistibly forward-moving percussive sequences which evoke visions of their homeland. • 44 – Caim

After witnessing one of their sets at Amsterdam institution Breakfast Club last year, we felt an instant urge to invite Caim to our mix series. While Caim is a recent project, its members Tommy Kornuijt and Mark Antoni have been active in Amsterdam’s scene for years as independent DJ’s, most notably with their residency for the Breakfast Club where they have become known for extended after-hour sets. Last summer they released a first EP on their self-titled label Caim Records, with a second release scheduled for early 2019. Our first mix of 2019 by Caim is a perfect reflection of their sound: Timeless and with a hypnotizing groove, it finely treads the line between organic techno and rolling breaks.
